Our Biggest Project To Date
We're deep in production on our biggest project to date, Directing Actors, which will be released in 2013 or 2014 as a 10 or 11 DVD set. In this course we work with A-list Hollywood Directors, Actors and Casting Directors to create what we hope will be the definitive training on working with Actors.
Most philosophies of working with Actors tend to lock down on a single aspect of what is obviously a much larger territory, so that they for example vastly prioritize action over emotional state, or emotional state over action, without realizing that you have to do both for it to work.
This course doesn't have an ego and doesn't seek to evangelize a single approach, but to find what binds all successful approaches together.

This course doesn't have an ego and doesn't seek to evangelize a single approach, but to find what binds all successful approaches together.
And there IS something that binds them together, which hasn't been discussed thus far, but is something you'll agree you've always known intuitively.
Once you see the way it's laid out in this course, it'll become crystal clear exactly how to direct each single kind of Actor at each stage of his creative process, so that you can say the exact precise thing that crystallizes the character for him.
It'll become clear exactly which psychological layer each Directing technique targets, so that you can jump from layer to layer and help the actor get in the zone.
Finally, the course is specific that Directing is not about putting something into the Actor, but helping to draw something out, which calls for a different kind of demeanor and techniques altogether.

We're not doing this alone. We have major Hollywood players involved, and nothing makes it into the course that isn't agreed on.
We're also staging hundreds of Actor/Director situations to test each single approach in isolation, so that each method has to prove itself, which makes it stunningly clear what works and what doesn't. And we're taking you through a full casting session with a major Casting Director.
We have a feeling this course is a big deal, and we're very proud of how it's going. But it will be until 2013 or 2014 before it's ready for release.

People Who Are Helping Us:
Red Rock Micro
We want to give thanks to Red Rock Micro, who have helped us outfit our cameras for this production. Brian Valente is long-time friend of ours, Red Rock Micro's camera rails, matte boxes, follow focus and adapters are our favorite cine-gear, and they're the nicest people. Please support them!Red Rock Micro website
Microdolly Hollywood
This is our favorite small professional dolly, which is feather-weight and assembles in a stunning 30 seconds due to its brilliant design. It's not the cheapest dolly in the world, but you really appreciate the experience and workmanship that Jerry Johnson, the inventor and life-long DP put into it. We shoot everything with it.Microdolly website
Want To Help With The Production?
Directing Actors is being shot in Chicago, Los Angeles, Florence (Italy), and London (in that order). If you're interested in crewing for modest pay, please send us an email at crew@hollywoodcamerawork.us!The two primary open positions are PA and camera-operator, as we're doing a lot of multi-cam. We have all the equipment, so no equipment is needed, and most of you have the skills to do it.
Want To Act In The Production?
If you're a talented actor, there may be a role for you. The big casting session will be conducted in Los Angeles, but actors are needed in each of the cities above. As is normal, we have very specific needs, so don't feel bad if you don't get picked or don't get an immediate response. Also, it's important to be aware that the purpose of the course is to show the workflow and raw takes, not just the finished polished and edited scene, but you will always be presented in a positive light. You will get tape of your work.
To be considered, please send link to online reel, headshot and resume to casting@hollywoodcamerawork.us. No attachments! US actors must be SAG/AFTRA FI-Core. Select full SAG/AFTRA actors can be accepted under Educational/Industrial Agreement.
